Utica Lady Comets Fastpitch Softball Code of Conduct

The goal of the Utica Lady Comets Fastpitch Softball program is to provide an opportunity for young women to play competitive softball in an atmosphere that encourages and promotes teamwork, friendly competition, meaningful relationships and good sportsmanship. The organization expects team management, coaches, fans and parents to exhibit respectful behavior at all times.

PLAYER CODE OF CONDUCT

The team management and coaching staff will hold every athlete to a high standard and will expect all team members to conduct themselves in a responsible manner.

  • I will treat practice just like a game. Practice time is the time to learn and improve. We will emphasize focuseffort and attitude at all times.
  • I will attend every practice and game that I can and will be on time. I will notify the coach if I cannot. I understand that the commitment to this team during the softball season takes priority over all other sports and/or activities.
  • I will play every game to the best of my ability giving maximum effort, avoiding all distractions that may negatively affect my play on the field (focus).
  • I will listen and learn from my coaches. I will ask questions if I am not sure. I will be willing to try new positions and new techniques. I will be willing to do whatever my team needs me to do (attitude).
  • I will accept my role on the team. If I am not happy with my role, I will work harder to change it. Playing time is earned in practice and on the field (focuseffort, and attitude).
  • I will treat my coaches, other players, officials and fans with respect. Disrespect for the coaches, parents, teammates and umpires is to disrespect the team and the Lady Comet organization and will not be tolerated.
  • I will demonstrate and encourage good sportsmanship from fellow players, coaches and officials at every practice and game. This includes but is not limited to the refraining from the use of foul, abusive or profane language.
  • I will not initiate a fight or bully any teammates, fellow players, coaches or officials.
  • I will lead by example and support my teammates on and off the field.
  • I will remember that to be a member of the Lady Comets and to be able to represent this organization by wearing its uniform is an earned privilege not a right.
  • If I fail to abide by the above code of conduct, the resulting action could include but is not limited to the following:
    • verbal warning/counseling by the general manager and/or coach
    •  practice and/or game suspension
    • termination from the team

PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT

Parents play a huge role in the development of a successful athlete. Your influence is equally important as that of the coaches.  We encourage and welcome your presence at every team activity, practice and game.

  • I will encourage my daughter to communicate with the coaches. It is very important that the players build the confidence to interact with and establish a healthy interactive relationship with their coaches.
  • I will make sure my daughter is on time to all team activities. I will notify the coach if my daughter cannot attend or will be late. I understand that the commitment to this team during the softball season takes priority over all other sports and/or activities.
  • I will reach out to the coach if I have a problem or concern. Your thoughts are important to us. We will work to address your concerns. Complaining to other parents cannot solve your problems, nor can we solve problems that we do not know about.
  • I will not question the coaches during a game. Disagreements with the coach do not belong on the field before, during or immediately after a game or practice. Questions or comments should be voiced later in a respectful manner and in the appropriate setting.
  • I will not coach or provide instruction to my daughter or any other player during practices or games. Your comments detract from what the coach is doing, they give the player another thing to think about and it interferes with the development of the player/coach relationship.
  • I will stay away from the bench/dugout and the back stop area during games so I do not distract my daughter or other players.
  • I will tell the coach before practice or games, if my daughter has an illness or injury that will prevent her from participating.

COACH CODE OF CONDUCT

The obligation of the coach is not only to promote, advance and support the athletic career of the players but also to raise them to be good persons with values, good behaviors and manners. As a coach, I will hold myself to the following principles:

  • Competence: I will seek continuous personal improvement as a coach. I will use proven methods and techniques that I am comfortable teaching.
  • Trustworthiness: I will inspire trustworthiness in the players. I will emphasize effective two-way communication and the importance of developing and building on meaningful relationships.
  • Respect: I will show respect towards others, one self, the sport, the organization and property. I will respect the decisions made by others (officials and opponents). I will treat each player as an individual with own rights and needs.
  • Fairness: I will be fair to all of the players. I will not show favoritism to one player over another. I will be open to discussing playing time decisions with a player and/or a parent(s).
  • Caring: I will care for the well being of every player. I will provide feedback to lead players to become mature individuals that are able to take care of themselves, make good decisions and take responsibility for their own actions and performance on the field and in all life situations.
  • Integrity: As a coach, I am a role model. I will exhibit behaviors that keep to a high moral standard.
  • Responsibility: As a coach, I am responsible for all aspects of the team. I strive to give the players the opportunities to develop their skills, confidence and self-esteem. I will ensure that there is effective communication to keep players and parents informed at all times.
